Perhaps you could use GET_DIRECTORY_PROPERTY()?

GET_DIRECTORY_PROPERTY(INC_LIST INCLUDE_DIRECTORIES)
GET_DIRECTORY_PROPERTY(DEFS DEFINITIONS)
