Thanks.  Can you explain the purpose of the hunk adding
PKG_CONFIG_VERSION_STRING:

- REQUIRED_VARS PKG_CONFIG_EXECUTABLE
+ REQUIRED_VARS PKG_CONFIG_EXECUTABLE PKG_CONFIG_VERSION_STRING

?

It seems unrelated to the other parts of the change.
