[CMake] Linux KDE4/Gnome menus and desktop icons

Title says it all.   How can I get my application listed in the 
KDE4/Gnome menus and create a desktop icon for it?

I tried placing an INSTALL( FILE ) of:
/usr/share/applications/mrViewer.desktop
/usr/share/pixmaps/mrViewer.xpm

But the above does not work and seems it used to work for KDE3.

Any help is appreciated.
