[CMake] error using cmake on 64-bit platform?

sorry, i've flailed along in different directions since then.

i rebuilt cmake (2.0.5, latest source i found) and there was no ccmake 
produced.  

the current cmake is:  ELF 64-bit LSB executable, AMD x86-64, version 1 (SYSV), for GNU/Linux 2.4.0, dynamically linked (uses shared libs), not stripped

i now get some errors about the project (VTK) that i don't expect you to
solve :)

but is there a better way?  should i get later source (where?) and rebuild?
