Indeed, you're right, it did compile, I didn't realise it was a
warning-silly me. I used to have similar messages
about openGL libraries.

(there used to be a static libutil.a, but I had removed it).
this is what was puzzling me all along.
'grep libutil CMakeCache.txt' returns
'PYTHON_UTIL_LIBRARY:FILEPATH=/usr/lib/libutil.so'
puzzling, I guess my problem is one foot into the vtk mailing list, but
as it seems to have compiled anyway,
