[Cmake] setting up a project

Hello,

there has been some mentioning of how to prepare a cmake project for use
with FIND_PACKAGE, esp. the UseFoo.cmake and FooConfig.cmake files.
Browsing the cooresponding files in vtk gives some hints, but it seems
there is a certain amount of infrastructure to support "old" vtk
conventions.
I would like to know, if there is a more basic example of how to set up
those files for use with FIND_PACKAGE or make a project easily cooperate
with other cmake projects ?
Also, I have not fully understood whether the support for build and
install trees is specific to vtk or whether this has to be done for all
cmake projects.

Any pointers or explanations greatly appreciated.
