Thanks for merging it to next. Now it will be tested on our existing
dashboards tonight.

Of course, to really test this feature, one would have to be building
on a system that has the libraries in the new locations. Can anybody
out there volunteer to set up a Debian-based dashboard that submits
nightly and uses the new Debian multiarch style install dirs: (like
'lib/i386-linux-gnu/')??

It's not really the size that we object to, it's the closeness in time
of the scheduled release, and the lack of time we will have to address
anything that goes wrong with what we merge today.

We rejected an even smaller change earlier today, and said it will
have to wait till after 2.8.7.

We will not take any more patches for 2.8.7 unless they address a
regression in behavior, fix a crash or are deemed absolutely critical.

This one can wait unless you can tell me why I should think it's critical.
