Looks like you're right: the last published edition of the book was based on 2.8.0.<br><br><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="border-collapse:collapse;color:rgb(34,34,34);font-family:arial,sans-serif;font-size:13px"><div>
The 2.8.0 tag was from mid-November, 2009: <a href="http://cmake.org/gitweb?p=cmake.git;a=commit;h=612409e5b01a7e4823bb379ee9e002177793eb75" target="_blank" style="color:rgb(17,85,204)">http://cmake.org/gitweb?p=cmake.git;a=commit;h=612409e5b01a7e4823bb379ee9e002177793eb75</a></div>
<div><br></div><div>2.8.1 was in March 2010: <a href="http://cmake.org/gitweb?p=cmake.git;a=commit;h=8c89b5e2dcab146557c6eac0c32e2ab813ae6428" target="_blank" style="color:rgb(17,85,204)">http://cmake.org/gitweb?p=cmake.git;a=commit;h=8c89b5e2dcab146557c6eac0c32e2ab813ae6428</a><br>
<br></div><div>By the way, you can tell exactly what version the generated portion of the book (the appendices) came from by looking at the very last page of the last appendix about policies -- the book actually says "CMake version 2.8.0-rc2 warns..."</div>
<div><br></div><div>When writing the actual text of the book, we try very carefully not to mention the version of CMake because it applies to the current version and all later versions if we do our jobs correctly. So the book is still relevant today despite the fact that it was based on 2.8.0.</div>

Working through examples is the most important feature of the text.<br>
I think the tutorial found at<br>
<a href="http://www.cmake.org/cmake/help/cmake_tutorial.html" target="_blank">http://www.cmake.org/cmake/<u></u>help/cmake_tutorial.html</a> is the same or<br>
similar to those examples found in the book and may be of use to you.<br>
The tutorial assumes cmake-2.6 and should work for any newer version<br>
of cmake.<br>

The last book was finalized on 2009-12-11 which covers up through CMake 2.8.1.<br>
