If you are in a "pure" msys environment you may wan to try:

cmake -G "MSYS Makefiles" [path to build directory]

Thanks, this works!
Much appreciated!

or cmake -G "MinGW Makefiles"
if you are in MinGW command prompt ( like the one distributed with Qt)

If you just run cmake inside your msys shell and use -G "Unix Makefiles" it should all just work...

I want to use Cmake on Windows with mingw and msys. I want to use cmake in the command line. How do I set the right compiler etc. to use gcc?

Thanks in advance,
